Pea (Lat. Pisum) – genus of gramineous plants of Legumes family (Leguminosae). It has been growing since ancient times; nevertheless the Egyptians didn’t know about it. Oswald von Heer stated that he had found its seeds in pile-buildings of the Bronze and even of the Stone ages. It was cultivated from ancient times in India. The origin of peas is recognized as Oriental, though without full confidence. There are numerous pea varieties.
